Galen Hooks is an LA native who has been in the entertainment industry since the age of 7. She is a chameleon who defies genre and can seamlessly shift between roles both in front of and behind the camera.
Galen’s reach is felt worldwide- her iconic choreography is synonymous with risk-taking and authenticity as an artist. From the strength, power and sensuality of RIVER (+29 Million views on YouTube) to the skilled ability to put a fresh twist on beloved classics like WEST SIDE STORY, dancers and non-dancers alike are impacted globally by her work.
Her video to BURY A FRIEND was the 5th most like dance video of 2019, featured in YouTube Rewind 2019.
Galen is the rare viral sensation (over 300 million views across social media) whose popularity comes with clout. An industry darling with over 20 years experience, she is an MTV VMA-nominated choreographer with one of the most impressive dance and choreography careers of her generation.
Most impressively, Galen is a true visionary and multi-hyphenate with her filmmaking. Whether she is choreographing, performing, directing, songwriting or producing (or wearing all of these hats at once as in the award-winning, festival favorite “WAIT FOR ME” and her monumental 20-minute musical “THERE ONCE WAS A WOMAN”), she has an eye for detail and storytelling that she breathes into every project.
At 7 years old, her dance group was the Junior Dance Champion on Star Search. As a child, she worked on shows such as Full House, modeled for Mervyn’s, and performed in an opera with Placido Domingo. As a teen, she assisted choreographer Marguerite Derricks for movies such as Donnie Darko and shows such as That 70’s Show.
Galen has worked with over 60 artists, including Janet Jackson, Justin Bieber, Camila Cabello, Britney Spears, Usher, Chris Brown, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Banks, Grimes, and John Legend. She modeled extensively for Nike, including countless catalogs, billboards, and a two-page ad in Vogue magazine.
She was part of the creative team in tributes for Janet Jackson and Missy Elliott and performed at the historic MTV VMA Michael Jackson Tribute.
Producing credits include America’s Got Talent (Associate Consulting Producer), The Voice (Associate Performance Producer), Disney Channel Presents: Radio Disney’s Family VIP Birthday (Executive Producer and Creative Director), and YouTube’s “Masterclass” (Consulting Producer and Host).
Theater works include Associate Co-choreographer for the revival of the hit Broadway show Dreamgirls and Choreographer for Higher Education, a new musical from the Tony Award-winning producers of Hair and Memphis.
Galen is recognized as a dancer, choreographer, and actress in THE LXD: Legion of Extraordinary Dancers, which has a 3-season show on Hulu and has had groundbreaking performances on So You Think You Can Dance, TED Talks, the 82nd Annual Oscars, as the opening act for two Glee Tours, at the Guggenheim New York, Invisible Children’s Fourth Estate (with an original score by Hans Zimmer), and Google Zeitgeist in London.
Galen is also well known for being a leading lady for R&B heartthrobs Miguel (“Arch N Point”) and Usher (“Good Kisser”) and most recognizably as a dancer, choreographer, and actress for Ne-Yo‘s concept album Libra Scale, in which she played the lead character, Diamond Eye, and her alter ego, Pretti Sinclair, in the album’s music videos, album leaflet, and live performances.
